Somany also came to the fore when he fought and won both major battles and minor skirmishes against I.K Gujaral, former Prime Minister of India; Bansi Lal, former Chief Minister of Haryana; and two of his own brothers.
In many ways, Somany’s phenomenal rise is a proxy for India’s post-Independence industrialisation drive. R K. Somany’s name is synonymous with the leading sanitaryware brand Hindware. As the Chairman and Managing Director of HSIL Limited, the parent company of Hindware, he has pioneered numerous innovations in his field.
He has served as the President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) and the President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is also instrumental in founding the Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC), with support from the National Skill Development Corporation and they plan to mentor and develop 1200 trainers in this area and have 1.2 million trained and certified plumbers by 2022.
