കലാകാരൻ ആയ ഹരിദാസ് എ കെ യുടെ ഓർമ്മകുറിപ്പാണ് ‘ചാരം’ (Grey). ഏഴ് മാസങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ടാണ് ഹരിദാസ് ഈ പുസ്തകം എഴുതി പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത്. എഴുതി ഭലിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയാത്ത സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ ചാർക്കോൾ (കരി) എന്ന മാധ്യമം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഒരുപാട് സഹായിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. 24 വയസ് വരെ കറൻ്റ് ഇല്ലാതെ ജീവിച്ചതാണ് ഹരിദാസ്. അതെല്ലാം തൻ്റെ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്താൻ കരിയാണ് ഏറ്റവും നല്ല മാർഗമായി തോന്നിയതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പങ്കുവെച്ചു. മനസ്സ് തുറന്ന് എഴുതിയ ആത്മകഥയാണ് ചാരം. കരി കൊണ്ടാണ് ഇതിലെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ വരച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. പാറകളുടെയും മലകളുടെയും ഉത്പടെ നിരവധി ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ഇതിൽ കാണാൻ സാധിക്കും. ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഒരു ഗ്രാമം തന്നെ മനുഷ്യൻ എടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് പോയ കഥ സ്വന്തം കാര്യം പറയുന്നതിൻ്റെ കൂടെ അദ്ദേഹം പറയുന്നുണ്ട്.
