History is so much more than what you learn in class! Everything around us is connected to our past. Even the lives we live are built on those of our ancestors.

It is with a view to demystifying history that Amar Chitra Katha, a pioneer of storytelling through illustrations, presents India: A History Through the Ages. This series brings together some of Amar Chitra Katha’s greatest stories and art to reconstruct Indian history—from the Harappan Civilisation and the Vedic Age to the rise of Buddhism and Jainism, and from the greatest dynasties to rule India— including the Mauryas, Guptas, sultanates and Mughals—to the British rule in India.

Meet Varun, Ritu and their grandmother, a powerhouse of information, as they embark on their first adventure to the Harappan Civilisation and the Vedic Ages. Dadi’s storytelling transports the children to the banks of the river Indus. It was a time when people started moving away from their nomadic, hunting—gathering ways, and settling down in permanent homes. Later, the trio travels to the Vedic Age, where education and written text was gaining prominence.
