This looks at Hindustani music, rhythm, and (Kathak) dance explicitly in relation to philosophy and philosophers of art. It is from this point of view that the present book should be welcome. It also presents traditional ways of looking at Sangeet as well. Besides quite a few essays that explore the aesthetic aspects of Hindustani music, this book also takes a backward look at Kathak dance and engages the reade3r in a discussion of how far our music can be regarded as spiritual.
About the Author
Dr. Sushil Kumar Saxena(b.1921) was a Professor of Philosophy when her retired from teh University of Delhi in 1986. There, he had teh privilege of starting the teaching of aesthetics to post graduate students.
