General note ഒരു പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രം എന്ന നിലയ്ക്കപ്പുറം ഭരണവര്‍ഗത്തിന്റെ ക്രിയാപദ്ധതിയായി ഹിന്ദുത്വം മാറി. സവര്‍ക്കര്‍ മുന്നോട്ടുവച്ച 'ഹിന്ദുത്വ' എന്ന പ്രത്യയശാസ്ത്രത്തിന് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യപൂര്‍വനാളുകളിലും സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യാനന്തരമുള്ള ആദ്യ ദശകങ്ങളിലും ജനമനസ്സുകളിലേക്ക് കടന്നുകയറാന്‍ ഒട്ടേറെ പ്രതിബന്ധങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയെന്ന നവസ്വതന്ത്ര രാജ്യത്തിലെ ജനതയുടെ പ്രതീക്ഷകളും ഉദാത്തമായ സങ്കല്പങ്ങളും വിശ്വമാനവികന്‍ എന്ന പരികല്പനയും ഹിന്ദുത്വത്തെ തടഞ്ഞുനിര്‍ത്തി. എന്നാല്‍ മതം എന്ന പ്രബലമായ ശക്തിക്കുള്ളില്‍ കയറിപ്പറ്റി മനുഷ്യമനസ്സുകളെ കീഴ്‌പ്പെടുത്താന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്നു പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകാലം കൊണ്ട് ഹിന്ദുത്വത്തിനു കഴിഞ്ഞു. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ നവ ഉദാരവല്‍ക്കരണവും കുത്തക മൂലധനവുമായുള്ള കൂട്ടുകെട്ട് ഹിന്ദുത്വ വ്യാപനത്തിന് ഊര്‍ജ്ജം നല്‍കി. ഹിന്ദുത്വത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിലേക്കും വര്‍ത്തമാനത്തിലേക്കും അതിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയാവതാരങ്ങളിലേക്കുമുള്ള എത്തിനോട്ടമാണ് ഈ കൃതി.
