Noopur Kumar's ‘Threads of Hope - The Magical Weaves of Andhra Pradesh' bagged the National Tourism Award 2010-11 for excellence in publishing in English.
President Prathibha Patil presented the award to Mrs. Noopur Kumar at a function held in New Delhi. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy had released the book in January this year.
The writer says that the book is about the life and legacy of weavers and their craft, including Kalamkari, Ikat or Mangalgiri.
It was while living in Tekkali in Srikakulam district that the writer was fascinated by the warp and weft when she first saw khadi being spun at Ponduru. Her book, ‘Hyderabad - Potrait of a City' was also very well received
